About Us

Kaluzny Bros., Inc. (KBI) is a family-owned and operated rendering company committed to delivering sustainable recycling solutions to their customers and the environment.

For over 75 years, Kaluzny Bros., has proudly served their customers by recycling inedible animal bones, fat, offal, and used cooking oil in a safe and secure manner. KBI’s services play a critical role in reducing food waste and creating sustainable products for society.

Our History

Kaluzny Bros., Inc. was founded in 1946 after World War II by four Polish first-generation Kaluzny brothers, Ed, Harry, Joe, and Ray. While three brothers served in WWII in the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force, one sibling was turned away as his experience in rendering fats and oils was an essential, high-demand skill needed on the home front.

Rendering was vital to the war effort as tallow and other oils were used to make specialty products such as nitroglycerin what went into explosives. Upon returning from the war, the four brothers joined together to start their rendering business in Joliet, Illinois.

Now in it’s third generation of leadership, Kaluzny Bros. continues to play a critical role in keeping hundreds of millions of pounds of animal by-product material out of our nation’s landfills by recycling that material into the building blocks of thousands of items society depends on each and every day.

Those items include bindings for asphalt, candles, cellophane, ceramics, cosmetics, crayons, deodorants, dog food, detergents, insecticides, insulation, linoleum, fabric softener, biodiesel, paints & coatings, plastics, shoe polish, shaving cream, soaps, floor & car waxes, antifreeze, rubber & tires, and many more!
